Charyn McGinnis enjoys a good challenge.
In fact, facing challenges head-on and finding creative solutions has defined this Houston-based HR project manager’s career from the moment she started working with Kelly® in 2000.
“MY KELLY RECRUITER, STACEY, WAS RESPONSIVE, SUPPORTIVE, AND COMMITTED. WHENEVER ONE PROJECT WOULD COME TO AN END, SHE’D INVARIABLY SUGGEST OTHER INTERESTING JOBS AT GREAT COMPANIES.”
Fresh out of business school, even before her first assignment with Kelly, Charyn was already showing signs of being a promising project management professional. It was the work she performed to design, develop, and deploy an entirely new database to facilitate data input and report distribution that made her an attractive candidate for one of our large clients. Her resourcefulness and technical aptitude put her in good stead in her subsequent Kelly IT assignments—where she embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and consistently advanced her knowledge and skills.
Thanks to Kelly, Charyn has enjoyed a successful career run as a free agent for more than a decade. When a project would come to an end or when she felt she’d learned everything she could in a position, she’d contact her recruiter, Stacey, about new opportunities.
She describes Stacey as a responsive, supportive, and committed recruiter who would invariably suggest interesting jobs at great companies.
Listen to Charyn’s story in her own words.
Today, as a result of her career progression with Kelly, Charyn is working for a major global oil and gas company as a project manager. After being hired, she was increasingly brought in on projects where her analytical mind could make a difference.
While on one of these projects, Charyn was encouraged to consider a career in project management. She liked the idea and so did her company, which agreed to pay for her Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification training. She did so well that immediately after earning her certification in 2012, she was sent to Dubai for three weeks to manage a project. In April 2014, she was officially promoted to her current position as project manager.
Moving forward, Charyn’s professional objective is to continue exploring additional project management career path opportunities offered by her employer. In fact, she recently earned her Lean Six Sigma® Green Belt Certification. There’s no doubt that this self-taught, highly motivated, and very capable professional will continue to acquire more skills and advance her career.
Because ultimately, whatever the future brings, she’ll be up for the challenge.
