    January 15, 2025
For senior-level professionals and rising engineers alike, the career journey of Thomas Green Jr. to Lead Piping Designer is a testament to the boundless opportunities in the engineering industry and the value of continuous learning.

    From Apprenticeship to Expertise

Thomas’s career journey began humbly within the marine industry during an apprenticeship program. He quickly became aware of the need to bring in fresh talent and knowledge to invigorate traditional engineering practices. “I learned everything I needed to, or at least I thought at that time,” he fondly recalls. However, Thomas quickly realized that each step of his career was a step towards deeper expertise and broader horizons.   From the early days of learning piping design to moving through various industries, Thomas embraced every challenge and opportunity. His career saw him traversing several states, transitioning from marine to aerospace, and finally settling into the petrochemical field. Each transition was a move towards a job scope that resonated with his passions and proximity to home. “Kelly has been there for me ever since,” Thomas noted, underscoring the pivotal role Kelly Engineering played in his professional journey by providing support, organization, and facilitating continuous education.

    Leveraging Advanced Technologies

In his current role, Thomas leverages cutting-edge software like SP3D to design, test, purchase materials, and create P&IDs, which he describes as the lifelines of all engineering projects. His commitment to excellence is evident in his approach towards every task, ensuring that each challenge is met with determination and the desire to learn. “I always prided myself on doing the best that I could do, making the most of any situation, overcoming any hurdles and not recreating the same mistakes more than twice,” he emphasized.

    Making Historical Contributions

One of the most profound aspects of Thomas’s career is the wide range of experiences and historical moments he has encountered. From working on fast attack submarines, aircraft carriers, and battleships to witnessing the construction of triple seven planes in the aerospace industry, Thomas's contributions have spanned some of the most critical sectors of engineering. He has even traveled to Japan and the four corners of the U.S., all in pursuit of knowledge and career advancement.   Thomas's story is not only inspiring but also a powerful message to young engineers: applying oneself and seeking continuous learning opens doors. His journey with Kelly Engineering showcases the importance of having a supportive partner in your career growth, emphasizing that the right opportunities, guidance, and dedication can lead to remarkable achievements.   Ready to take the next step in your career like Thomas?
