A highly established, publicly traded energy organization is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join its cloud application team in Herndon, VA (2 days onsite per week). This role focuses on designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure supporting modern applications within a Google Cloud + Kubernetes ecosystem. The team is deeply involved in building cutting-edge digital platforms that enable decarbonization initiatives and optimization across energy and industrial systems.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong background in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Cloud Infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Proven experience managing Kubernetes environments in production
  • Expertise with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Experience implementing GitOps workflows (ArgoCD)
  • Strong CI/CD experience using GitHub and GitHub Actions
  • Experience supporting cloud-based applications (Node.js preferred; exposure to Go, Python, or Java)
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, security, service connectivity, and access patterns
  • Experience with logging, monitoring, alerting, and production troubleshooting
  • Scripting/automation experience for operational efficiency

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting large-scale or data-intensive applications
  • Strong focus on improving developer experience and internal platform tooling
  • Familiarity with incident response, postmortems, and operational best practices
  • Exposure to high-reliability or regulated environments (energy, industrial, infrastructure)
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar)
  • Experience working across multi-cloud environments (AWS exposure welcomed)

Daily Responsibilities

  • 30% Designing and maintaining Kubernetes-based deployment systems
  • 25% Building and improving CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows
  • 15% Monitoring, alerting, and ensuring system reliability
  • 15% Infrastructure automation and tooling development
  • 15% Collaboration with engineering teams on deployability and performance
