Job Title: Field QA Tester/Engineer (Mobile)
Location: New York, New York (Onsite 5 days a week) OR 90% travel across the US (2 openings on the same team)

Our client develops innovative Android-based retail technology (hardware and software) aimed at enhancing the customer shopping experience. You would be part of a team focused on supporting and testing Android-based connected devices in retail environments. Additionally, you will work on automation testing and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality products.
In this role as a Field QA Engineer/Tester, you will be responsible for providing on-site technical support, troubleshooting, and testing Android-based technology used in retail environments. This hands-on position involves traveling to various locations across the U.S., diagnosing and resolving issues with Android-based mobile devices to ensure they function smoothly in real-time store operations. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to test automation, process improvements, and feature development while working with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and repair mobile Android devices on-site.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues to ensure continuous device functionality.
- Perform thorough testing of Android-based technology in real-world retail settings.
- Create and maintain test cases for both manual and automated testing using tools like TestRail.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, hardware engineering, and QA, to improve processes and ensure project success.
- Assist in automating regression test cases and contribute to automation efforts using tools like Appium or Selenium.
- Communicate recurring issues and suggest improvements to the technical team.
- Provide detailed documentation of test results, processes, and status updates.
- Ensure smooth operation of connected devices to minimize disruption to store operations.
- Proactively identify, document, and resolve bugs or usability issues in real-time store environments.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in testing and troubleshooting Android-based mobile devices.
- Hands-on experience with diagnosing and repairing hardware and software issues.
- Experience with automation testing and tools such as Appium, Selenium, or similar.
- Familiarity with test planning and test case management tools like TestRail.
- Experience interacting with RESTful APIs and tools like Postman.
- Knowledge of databases like MongoDB or MySQL is a plus.
- Willingness to travel frequently (90% of the time) to various retail locations, including NYC, San Francisco, and other major cities.
- Strong communication skills to report recurring issues and provide feedback to the technical team.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments while maintaining minimal disruption to store operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience testing hardware products, particularly in retail environments.*
- Experience with POS systems, including payment terminals, barcode scanners, etc.
- Exposure to cloud technologies like AWS and microservices.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a self-starter mindset with high standards for quality.
Compensation and Benefits: This position offers an hourly rate between $30 – $35/hour, depending on experience. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative retail solutions in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment.
