Job details

A fast-growing robotics and industrial automation startup in the Greater Boston area is hiring a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer to help develop next-generation robotic systems that are transforming automotive service operations. This role focuses on the design, development, testing, and production release of complex mechatronic systems, combining mechanical engineering, robotics, automation, and industrial product development. The position offers the opportunity to work on highly innovative robotic solutions in a hands-on startup environment where engineers have significant ownership and direct influence over product development from concept through deployment.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer who enjoys building complex machines and seeing products move rapidly from prototype to production. The company is looking for someone who can combine strong analytical design skills with practical hands-on engineering, working closely with electrical, software, controls, and perception teams to create robust robotic systems. You’ll play a key role in shaping product architecture, improving manufacturability, and helping establish engineering processes as the organization continues to scale.

Required Skills & Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or related field
· 5+ years of professional experience in robotics, automation, or industrial equipment development
· Proven experience designing complex electro-mechanical systems from concept through production release
· Strong expertise in actuator, motor, gearbox, and sensor selection and integration
· Experience with encoders, load cells, proximity sensors, and other industrial sensing technologies
· Experience performing structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools
· Proficiency with SolidWorks, Onshape, or equivalent CAD platforms
· Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing creation
· Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, including BOM management, ECO processes, and revision control
· Hands-on prototyping, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting experience
· Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Desired Skills & Experience

· MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
· Experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles to industrial products
· Experience designing low-to-medium volume production systems
· Expertise in system dynamics, simulation, modeling, and vibration analysis
· Experience developing free body diagrams and governing equations for electro-mechanical systems
· Experience performing static and dynamic load calculations and kinematic analysis
· Experience working with industrial controls systems and automation equipment
· Experience developing engineering standards, documentation processes, CAD libraries, and PDM workflows
· Experience with MATLAB and/or Python
· Startup experience and comfort working in rapidly evolving environments
