Job Description
A rapidly growing technology-focused organization is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join its Payments & Partnerships engineering team. This role is ideal for an experienced backend developer who enjoys building scalable services, owning features end-to-end, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver business-critical solutions.
As part of a modern engineering organization, you will work with contemporary backend technologies, cloud-based platforms, and automated deployment pipelines. The team emphasizes clean, maintainable code, strong testing practices, continuous delivery, and the use of AI-powered tools to enhance productivity and innovation. This is a hybrid position based in Waltham, MA, with three days per week in the office.
Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • 6+ years of professional backend software development experience
  • Strong programming experience with Java, Kotlin, or comparable object-oriented languages such as Python or .NET
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, and software engineering best practices
  • Experience working with relational databases and strong SQL skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of delivering high-quality production software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Comfortable learning new technologies and adapting to changing business needs

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience building applications in highly distributed, cloud-based environments
  • Familiarity with AWS or other major cloud platforms
  • Experience supporting payment systems, integrations, or partner-facing services
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and large language model (LLM) technologies
  • Experience working within modern CI/CD environments and automated deployment pipelines
  • Ability to contribute across multiple business domains and technical areas

What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities

  • Partner with product managers, frontend engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services within the Payments & Partnerships domain
  • Take ownership of features from requirements gathering through production deployment and ongoing support
  • Write clean, scalable, and well-tested code with a strong emphasis on quality and maintainability
  • Collaborate with team members to rapidly iterate on new functionality and product enhancements
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and technical improvements across the platform
  • Utilize AI-powered development tools to improve engineering efficiency and accelerate experimentation
  • Support continuous integration and deployment processes to deliver software reliably and frequently

The Offer

  • Base Salary: $163,000 – $220,000 annually
  • Annual performance-based incentive opportunity
