A Charlotte-based private real estate investment and development firm focused on healthcare, sports medicine, and mixed-use assets across the Southeastern United States is looking to bring on its first AI engineer. This is a ground-floor opportunity to architect and own the AI infrastructure from scratch — working directly with firm leadership to design, build, and scale intelligent systems that support investment analysis, asset management, acquisition workflows, and operational decision-making.

They are seeking a Founding AI Engineer to shape the technical vision and deliver production-grade AI systems that transform how there team sources deals, manages assets, and generates investor insights. This is a high-ownership role for a builder who thrives in ambiguity and wants their work to directly impact a growing investment platform. This role is on site 5 days a week.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Python
  • LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.)
  • RAG pipeline development
  • Multi-agent frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar)
  • API integration and production infrastructure
  • SQL / Database knowledge
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of software or AI engineering experience
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience building and evaluating LLM systems in production
  • Vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector)
  • Model evaluation frameworks — accuracy, hallucination, latency, and cost
  • Experience in finance, real estate, or investment management environments
  • Comfortable working directly with executives and non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-starter who can own a technical roadmap independently

What You Will Be Doing

  • 70% AI System Development & Production Infrastructure
  • 20% Evaluation, Testing & Optimization
  • 10% Stakeholder Collaboration & Technical Strategy
  • 100% Hands On

Daily Responsibilities

  • Architect and build RAG pipelines, multi-agent frameworks, and fine-tuned models from scratch
  • Design evaluation loops to measure LLM accuracy, hallucinations, latency, and cost
  • Own production infrastructure including API integrations, streaming responses, data processing, and system safety guardrails
  • Build and scale AI systems that support deal sourcing, investment analysis, and asset management workflows
  • Integrate AI tools with existing platforms, databases, and internal systems
  • Define and own the AI technical vision from day one — architecture, delivery, iteration, and scale
  • Partner directly with firm leadership to identify automation opportunities and translate business needs into production solutions
