Engineering Lead (Platform & Architecture)

This full-time, onsite opportunity west of Boston is with a growing technology organization that develops advanced software and connected systems for healthcare and security technology products. The team is looking for an experienced Engineering Lead to help modernize existing platforms, architect scalable solutions, and lead the evolution of both desktop and cloud-connected applications. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Java application development who enjoys balancing hands-on engineering, architectural leadership, and mentoring technical teams.

You’ll partner closely with senior technical leadership to modernize legacy applications, evaluate new technologies, define architectural standards, and guide engineering best practices while remaining deeply involved in development. The ideal candidate brings experience building both enterprise backend services and Windows-based desktop applications, with a particular focus on Java Swing and rich-client development.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong Java development experience
  • Experience developing Windows-based desktop applications
  • Hands-on experience with Java Swing GUI development
  • Experience building and maintaining rich-client applications
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design patterns and software architecture
  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
  • Experience with Docker and containerized applications
  • Background working in Agile environments
  • Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers

  • Python development experience
  • Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures
  • AWS or cloud platform experience
  • Go development experience
  • Kubernetes orchestration experience
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications
